Secret Agent Clank

RATCHET'S sidekick is in control in Secret Agent Clank, but that's not going to stop this game arriving in Flopsville.

I've long been a fan of the Ratchet And Clank franchise, so it saddens me to say the series is starting to lose it's gloss.

Developed by High Impact Games, this spin-off of Insomniac's original title lacks the usual compulsive gameplay, wicked weaponry, cool characters and tongue-in-cheek humour.

It's hard to keep a concept strong for six years, that's how long ago the original title about a Lombax, his level-headed dry-witted and ultra-smart robotic sidekick and a kickarse weapon called RYNO came out.

The game is a spoof of the James Bond franchise and features appropriately styled mission introductions, tuxedos and spy gadgets.

Once you've completed the first mission you'll find yourself entering a multi-pronged set of stories, where you will control Qwark and Ratchet, and a bang-your-head-against-the-wall menu system.

The most important thing - gameplay - features the occasional fun moment, especially the early spy-inspired sneak and stalk elements, but it all gets a bit ho-hum as the style becomes over-used.

Sadly even Ratchet struggles to save the day, with his missions more a necessity than fun.

The usual bolts are there and you'll unlock cheats galore.

And just in case you feel the need to play to the end, you'll find the show's over in around eight hours.
